- Step 1: On your computer, press the Windows key and the R key at the same time. Now, in the Run dialog box that displays, type in %appdata% and click the OK button.
- Step 2: In the window that appears, in the space (at the top) where the file path displays, click App Data.
- Step 3: Select the Local option and then choose the Windows Live option.
- Step 4: In the Windows Live folder, search for the .cache file. Once you find the file, right-click it and rename it as .cache.old
- Step 5: Restart your computer. Once it restarts, check whether your Windows Live Mail (2012) is able to open and close normally.
- Step 6: If the problem persists, perform the following steps:
- Step 7: On your computer, press the Windows key and the E key simultaneously. Go to Local Disk (C:) and then to Program Files (x86).
- Step 8: Now, locate the Windows Live folder and then open it.
- Step 9: Within Windows Live, find the Mail folder and click it. Navigate to the file called, wlmail.exe
- Step 10: Right-click this file. From the menu that appears, choose Properties.
- Step 11: In the pop-up window that displays, click the Compatibility tab. Next, try modifying the files’ compatibility to Windows 7 compatibility.
- Step 12: Finally, close all the open windows. If required, restart your computer. When you try closing Windows Live Mail, you will find a pop-up that states there is an issue while attempting to close Windows Live Mail.
- Step 13: Now, Windows will prompt you to answer some questions.
- Step 14: Thereafter, Windows will resolve the cannot open Windows live mail 2012 issue by itself. You will now find that Windows Live 2012 opens and closes normally.
