Mac Mail Spam Filter Settings

For Mac OS X 10.8 or later users:

  • Step 1: First, create a junk folder in you’re Apple Mail if you don’t have any.
  • Step 2: To create the Junk folder, launch the Apple Mail application on your Maccomputer.
  • Step 3: At the lower left corner of the application screen, you can find the plus icon; click it.
  • Step 4: Select the New Mailbox… option from the drop-down menu.
  • Step 5: Now, the New Mailbox dialog box will appear.
  • Step 6: Make sure to select the correct folder path from the Location drop-down menu.
  • Step 7: In the Name field, enter the junk folder name and click the OK button.

Steps to create rules for the newly created folders

  • Step 1: Click the Mail tab followed by the Preferences option.
  • Step 2: Go to the Rule section and click the Add Rule button.
  • Step 3: Now, the Rule dialog box will open.
  • Step 4: Type the Spam Filter keyword in the Description field.
  • Step 5: Select the Edit Header List option from the drop-down menu below the If section.
  • Step 6: Now, click the plus icon available at the end of the same section.
  • Step 7: Choose the X-Spam-Level option on the Message Header dialog box.
  • Step 8: Click the OK button.
  • Step 9: Enter five s’s (sssss) in the text field next to Contains.
  • Step 10: Now, navigate to the Perform the following actions: section.
  • Step 11: Choose the Move Message option from the first drop-down menu.
  • Step 12: Select the Junk Email option from the drop-down menu beside the To mailbox tab.
  • Step 13: Click the OK button.
  • Step 14: Now, run the rule on the items.
