Step 1 - Add the Google account to the Windows Live Mail client

  • Step 1: Open a web browser and then access your Gmail account using its email address and password.
  • Step 2: Move the cursor to the gear-shaped icon at the top of the screen and click it.
  • Step 3: Choose the Settings option from the context menu, click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab, and select the radio button next to the Enable POP or Enable IMAP option.
  • Step 4: Save the altered settings by clicking the Save Changes button at the bottom of the screen.
  • Step 5: Go to the Less Secure Apps page, navigate to the Access for less secure apps field, and select the radio button beside the Turn On option.
  • Step 6: If you are opening the Windows Live Mail email client for the first time, the Add an Email Account dialog window will open automatically.
  • Step 7: If not, navigate to the Accounts tab and click the Add an Email Account icon.
  • Step 8: When the Add Your Email Accounts window opens, provide your Gmail account’s email address and password in the Email Address and Password fields, respectively.
  • Step 9: Fill the Display Name field. If necessary, checkmark the box beside the Remember this password option.
  • Step 10: Once you click Next, the Gmail account will be added to the Windows Live Mail email client automatically.
  • Step 11: To manually add the account, select the checkbox beside the Manually configure server settings option and click the Next button.
  • Step 12: In the Configure Server Settings window, choose your account type from the Server Type drop-down menu and fill the rest of the fields.
  • Step 13: Click Next -> Finish to complete the email configuration process.
  • Step 14: Now, you can access the emails and contacts of the Gmail account from Windows Live Mail.
  • Step 15: If the Windows live mail google contacts sync is not worked, proceed with the following guidelines.

Step 2 - Export Google contacts

  • Step 1: Access the Google Contacts page and click the Export option on the left panel.
  • Step 2: In the next dialog box, select the radio button beside the Google CSV option and click the Export button.

Step 3 - Import contacts in Windows Live Mail

  • Step 1: In the main interface of Windows Live Mail, click the Contacts tab on the left panel.
  • Step 2: Now, click the down arrow icon at the top-right corner of the screen and choose the Import option followed by the Comma Separated Values (.CSV) option.
  • Step 3: When you see the CSV Import dialog window on the screen, click the Browse button and choose the Google CSV file.
  • Step 4: Click Next, select the checkbox next to the required options, and click the Change Mapping button.
  • Step 5: Choose the First Name option from the ‘Select a Contact field for the text field’ drop-down menu, select the checkbox beside the Import this field option, and click OK.
  • Step 6: Select the Finish option in the CSV Import dialog box.
  • Step 7: Once imported, then you will complete the Windows live mail google contacts sync process.
