Zoho SMTP Authentication Failed - [SOLVED]

Method 1-Checking Your Email Address And Password:

When you come across the error message, you have to check your email address and password that you have provided while configuring the SMTP or the Outgoing server. You need to enter your complete email address and the correct password for authentication. Otherwise, Zoho Mail will throw the “SMTP Authentication Failed” error.

If you find that you have entered the correct email address and password and still get the “Zoho SMTP Authentication Failed” error, move on to the next method.

Method 2-Creating Password For Two-factor Authentication:

Check whether you have enabled two-factor authentication for your account on other devices. In case you have enabled two-factor authentication, you will have to generate an application-specific password to set up your account on other devices. The following instructions will guide you in generating an application-specific password:

  • Step 1: First, log into the Zoho Mail account (as User). You can use the following link for the purpose
  • Step 2: To view Zoho Accounts, click on the My Account link(https://www.zoho.com/mail) at the top of the page.
  • Step 3: From the left menu, choose the Security option.
  • Step 4: Under Security, select the App Passwords option.
  • Step 5: In the Application Specific Passwords section, click on the Generate New Password button.
  • Step 6: Type in the app name that is associated with the specific password. This is just a reference name.
  • Step 7: Click on the Generate button to see the application-specific password.
  • Step 8: The device-specific password will appear only once.
  • Step 9: Remember that you have to use your password without any spaces on your device.

Now that you have generated an application-specific password, the “Zoho SMTP Authentication Failed” error should get fixed.

The following SMTP configuration settings for Zoho Mail will be helpful for your setup:

SMTP Configuration Settings For Zoho Mail-SSL

  • Step 1: The Outgoing Server Name will be smtp.zoho.in
  • Step 2: The Port will be 465.
  • Step 3: The Security Type is SSL.
  • Step 4: Require Authentication: Yes.

SMTP Configuration Settings For Zoho Mail-TLS

  • Step 1: The Outgoing Server Name will be smtp.zoho.in
  • Step 2: The Port will be 587.
  • Step 3: The Security Type is TLS.
  • Step 4: Require Authentication: Yes.

In both the above SSL and TLS sections, your email address must match the email address or the email aliases of the account for which you are giving the authentication information.

You have to stick to the above SMTP configuration settings (for SSL and TLS) while setting up your Zoho account. If any of these settings are incorrect, that might also lead to the “Zoho SMTP Authentication Failed” error message.
